Learning to be a Designer: Why I am Excited to Intern with a Graphic Design and Marketing Business

design intern

Hi!

My name is Abby and I am View’s newest intern. I am so excited that I get to spend some time working closer with View and learning more about design, marketing, and everything else this team excels at. I first wanted to introduce myself and let you all get to know a little bit more about me!

I just started my freshman year at Iowa State University, where I am studying interior design. Outside of class I have been fortunate enough to surround myself with the arts my whole life, including dance, playing the flute, painting, drawing, and musical theater. I guess it’s no surprise that I chose a creative career! As you can tell, I love anything artistic, so I am very fortunate to be able to say that this is my first internship. I can already tell that I will get so much out of it, both in terms of learning new skills, as well as having the amazing women that make up View as counterparts.

I’m sure that you have already figured out from the name that I am very closely related to Tanya ;). I’m so lucky to be able to work with my mom and the rest of the View team through this amazing business and family they have created. It has been the best gift for me to watch my mom build this business as I have grown up. Being surrounded by her strong work ethic, boss woman energy, and talent for weaving creativity into our lives has no doubt helped shape me into the person I have become, and am still growing into.

That being said, there are so many things I am excited about regarding starting this internship. View has always been just a few steps away for me (literally), so I have seen firsthand how the team functions on a day-to-day basis. I have always found their collaboration and communication skills impressive and interesting to listen to, so I am thrilled to now be able to participate in those discussions. During my time here I am also really looking forward to understanding how different forms of design and business complement each other. Even though I am in school for interior design, these first few weeks working with graphic design have already shown me just how beneficial it is to be surrounded by other designers and their ideas.

Finally, I am very curious to see even more of the inner workings of a business and the small details that make this business as great as it is, as entrepreneurship has been something I have considered to be part of my future since watching my mom do the same.

I am so grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to showcase all that the View team has and will teach me throughout this internship!
